How to compress an image

  1. Drop the image in. Drag a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the box, or browse for one. The preview appears the moment it loads.
  2. Say how small you want it. Use the quality slider for a direct trade-off, or switch to Target Size and name the file weight you need in kilobytes.
  3. Pick a format and download. WebP gives the smallest file for a photograph, JPEG is the safest for email and older software, and PNG keeps transparency intact.

Common questions

How much smaller will my file get?

A lot, usually. A four megabyte phone photo lands somewhere around 300 to 600 KB at 75% quality in WebP. Screenshots and flat graphics shrink less than photographs.

Will compressing a photo make it blurry?

A little, and the quality slider is what decides how much. Flat text and sharp edges show artefacts first, so drop the quality a few points at a time and watch the preview.
